Attendance in the Second Ministerial Meeting of OIC-15 Dialogue Platform in Tehran

 

Tehran hosted the Second Ministerial Meeting of the OIC-15 Dialogue Platform from May 17 to 19, 2025, bringing together science ministers and senior officials from member states to advance regional cooperation in science and technology, with a special focus on artificial intelligence (AI) as a driver of innovation and sustainable development in the Islamic world. The Director of the Centre also attended the meeting at Prof. Farhad Yazdandoust, acting minister for international scientific Cooperation invitation.

Tehran, May 20, 2025 – The Second Ministerial Meeting of the OIC-15 Dialogue Platform was successfully held in Tehran from May 17 to 19, 2025, under the theme “Innovation in Science and Technology through Using Artificial Intelligence (AI): A Strategy for Excellence, A Bright Future for the Islamic World.”

This high-level event, hosted by the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology of the Islamic Republic of Iran, brought together ministers, senior officials, and experts from OIC-15 member states. The meeting served as a key platform to foster regional cooperation through the advancement of scientific diplomacy and to address common challenges in the field of science and technology across Islamic countries.

The focus of the meeting was on the strategic role of artificial intelligence in higher education and economic development. Participants exchanged views on AI-related opportunities, shared national experiences, and discussed challenges facing the Islamic world in adapting to emerging technologies. One of the key outcomes of the meeting was the anticipated adoption of the first multilateral document on artificial intelligence among Islamic countries.

His Excellency Dr. Hossein Simaei, Minister of Science, Research and Technology, delivered the opening address, highlighting the importance of innovation, collaboration, and ethical AI development for sustainable growth. The meeting also included expert panel discussions and technical sessions on AI policy, education, research, and innovation.

During the three-day event, heads of delegations delivered national statements, and bilateral meetings between science ministers and their representatives were held to strengthen mutual cooperation.
A comprehensive report on the implementation of the resolutions adopted during the First Ministerial Meeting in Almaty was presented. Participants also discussed and confirmed the date and venue of the upcoming third ministerial meeting.

On the sidelines of the conference, an exhibition was organized to showcase the latest achievements of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the fields of science, technology, and artificial intelligence, with a special focus on the innovations of knowledge-based companies.

The OIC-15 Dialogue Platform provides a unique space for member countries to strengthen scientific collaboration and promote collective progress in science and technology.
